EDbN Individual membership application form

How to fill in this form

The European Deafblind Network (EDbN) is a network of Deafblind International (DBI).  It was set up as a way for deafblind people, parents and professionals to work together and share good practice at a European level.  In the last few years it has evolved into a way in which members of EDbN can campaign together in Europe.

In 2004 members of EDbN worked together to lobby MEPs to sign the Written Declaration on the rights of deafblind people.  The success of this campaign showed us how effectively we could work together.

We have now raised the level of awareness of deafblindness amongst MEPs in the European Parliament and we need to capitalise on this work.  The voice of deafblind people needs to be included in all appropriate European policy making.

In order to do this we need to share our knowledge of the needs of deafblind people.

We have an old list of EDbN members which needs to be updated because some of those members may no longer wish to be involved and there are many new people who want to work on European campaigning.

Amongst us there is considerable expertise on the needs of deafblind people in all parts of life.  We need to collect together that expertise in order to be able to respond to consultations that the European Commission carries out when it is developing policy in appropriate areas.  If we are able to work together in this way we can ensure that deafblindness is ’mainstreamed’.  ’Mainstreamed’ is a phrase used by the European Commission, to mean that the needs of groups such as people who are deafblind are not on the edge but are included in the way all policy is formulated.  That applies to all relevant policy areas including transport, broadcasting, manufactured goods, information technology, research, lifelong learning and employment amongst others.

If you have any knowledge or expertise in any of these areas please do let us know.  There is a question on the form which asks about ‘Areas of Special Knowledge’, please tell us about your knowledge here.
